On demand: Whitacre's Deep Field

Bergen Philharmonic OrchestraRecorded at Grieg Hall (Grieghallen), Bergen, Norway

Eric Whitacre's Deep Field is a symphonic work inspired by the Hubble Space Telescope - possibly the world's most famous telescope - and the iconic Deep Field image, an incredible snapshot of a small region in the constellation Ursa Major that revealed hundreds of billions of stars and thousand galaxies. This image is the deepest visible-light image of the cosmos and it is considered a "core" sample of the universe, cutting across billions of light-years.

The Edvard Grieg Choir and Youth Choir join the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Markus Stenz for Whitacre’s vision of the cosmos, which comes with its own revelatory climax.

Filmed in September 2019.
