On demand: The Double BassesKids event

Recorded at Konserthuset Stockholm: Stora Salen, Stockholm, Sweden

The double bass is the biggest string instrument in the orchestra. It emits low and muted tones, sometimes rhythmic, sometimes long, but almost always incredibly powerful. The double bass part often forms a stable foundation over which the rest of the orchestra’s notes can resound. When double basses are taken on tour, they are transported in enormous wooden boxes!

  • Carl Orff from Carmina Burana, arr Mats Nilsson

  • Ludwig van Beethoven from Symphony No. 5

  • Dmitry Shostakovich from Symphony No. 5
