On demand: Great ExpectationsKids event

Watch online on drive.google.comRecorded at The Playground Theatre, London, United Kingdom
Online until Tuesday 30 June 2020

Everyone in this story had great expectations: betterment, revenge, love, fortune, redemption, freedom. It all started with a beautiful young bride, in love, on her wedding day, many years before. The wedding never happened. The clocks stopped at twenty to nine on that ill fated day, and she has a story to tell.

Theatre Lab’s feminist adaptation revisits Charles Dickens’ much loved classic through the eyes of the eccentric Miss Havisham as she tells her story of Great Expectations.

Theatre Lab Company is known for dynamic, daring and visually stunning work, and at the same time, creating accessible and engaging theatre for a wide audience. Their profile includes classics, devised and musical productions as well as classical and contemporary Greek theatre. Recent London performances include Molière’s Don Juan at Hoxton Hall and Daphne du Maurier’s Jamaica Inn at Tabard Theatre, and Mothers and Lovers and Brecht’s A Respectable Wedding at The Playground Theatre.

Great Expectations was produced by Theatre Lab Company. It is on the English GCSE 2020 reading list and is suitable for children. The film of the play runs for one hour and 36 minutes. Please feel free to share this film with English teachers and English GCSE students.
