Princess Aurora is to be christened, and her six fairy godmothers are celebrating with magical gifts. The evil fairy Carabosse was not invited. She places a curse on the child in retaliation. When the princess turns 16, she is now fated to prick her finger on a spindle and die. But the Lilac Fairy has not yet given her gift, and manages to soften the curse. The Princess will not die, but will sleep for a hundred years and can only be woken by the kiss of a prince.

Sleeping Beauty, one of the greatest classical ballets, is written to the magical music of Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Choreographer Márcia Haydée has lent new depth to the evil fairy Carabosse in her version of Sleeping Beauty. For the first time, the role is danced by either a female or male dancer in a psychological portrait of evil. But no one is altogether evil. Sleeping Beauty premiered at the Opera in 2012 and is finally back!
