James Allen's Girls' School was founded as long ago as 1741. In the modern era, JAGS is still at the forefront of education for girls, being one of the country's leading independent day schools.

JAGS has always taken particular pride in its music heritage with both Gustav Holst and Ralph Vaughan Williams having been Director of Music. Music continues to go from strength to strength; 2018 marks the completion of a brand new Music School. Yet JAGS's Choral and Orchestral Concert at St John's remains the school's most prestigious annual musical event and is a superb platform for the school's leading musicians to perform exciting and challenging choral and symphonic music to the highest standards.

In an ambitious and varied programme, JAGS celebrates the centenaries of Debussy and Parry with some of their best loved music. It's also 150 years since the first performance of Bruch's Violin Concerto, performed here by the school's most senior music scholar Daniella Wu.
