Americana '18

St John’s Smith Square marks the 4th July with a musical celebration of great American works as part of Americana ’18. The day begins with Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man followed by Joan Tower’s answer Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman. There are also opportunities to take part in the fun with a workshop of Terry Riley’s minimalist masterpiece In C and a Come & Sing event in the evening of the finest American choral works with David Wordsworth and The Addison Singers. There are also chances to hear works by Gershwin, Sondheim, Ives, Reich, Cage, and of course Bernstein.

We open our 4 July celebrations with David Wordsworth conducting Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man followed by Joan Tower’s Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman.

This event is free to attend (tickets can be reserved by phone or in person), however purchasing a Day Pass gives you access to all events on 4 July as part of >>Independence Day<<, except for participation tickets for the Come & Sing, which must be booked separately.
