Brahms' Second Piano Concerto is brighter than his symphony, but just as dramatic, and the pianist is challenged by the power of the orchestra. Leif Ove Andsnes, world-renowned Norwegian pianist with an impressive repertoire, is finally visiting Norrköping – and we are proud to present him here for the first time.
Johann Sebastian Bach wrote Musikalisches Opfer in 1747, intricate variations on a theme he received from Frederick the Great. Here we hear a movement in Anton Webern's orchestration.
The four famous notes in Beethoven's Fifth – tá tá tá taaa – are said to symbolize fate knocking at the door. The motif permeates the entire work, which moves from darkness to light and ends in triumph.
Today, this symphony is the most frequently performed of all.
