Shaped by a life spent across borders, Handel’s music weaves the colours and styles of Europe into a single, vibrant tapestry.
This concert traces that rich European landscape, placing his work alongside the sounds that helped shape his distinctive voice.
Rameau’s Imaginary Symphony bursts with the flair and vivid character of the French stage, while Corelli’s Sinfonia takes us to Italy, where the operatic scene left a lasting imprint on Handel’s work.
Handel’s own Concerto a due cori, composed in England, stands at the centre: bold, spectacular, and full of ceremonial brilliance. The journey concludes in Germany with Bach’s Orchestra Suite No. 4. With spirited dance movements and majestic sonority, it’s a reminder of the musical world from which Handel emerged.
