This festive tribute to Hungarian composer György Kurtág, who turns 100 today, is bursting with humour and creativity. With highlights like Ligeti’s fascinating Poème symphonique for 100 metronomes and three new musical birthday tributes in the style of Kurtág, the evening is set to be a unique celebration of Kurtág’s musical spirit and imaginative vision.
Under the direction of Gregory Charette and with soloists Katharine Dain and Joey Marijs, Asko|Schönberg presents a surprising mix of emotional intensity and playfulness. In addition to Kurtág’s own masterpieces such as Játékok and Lebenslauf, the programme includes works by Unsuk Chin and Thomas Adès, as well as three world premieres inspired by the number 100. A colourful ode to a great composer, in which playfulness and depth meet seamlessly.
