It caused a sensation for the world of music when, in Prague’s National Museum in the early 1960s, a manuscript was discovered of a cello concerto that Joseph Haydn had listed in his catalogue of works. It wasn’t long before scholars were satisfied by the authenticity of the concerto and the major cellists of the time had fallen in love with this magnificent piece, playing it with great success and pleasure. For such a young star as Petar Pejčić, born in 2002 in Serbia, this cello concerto was naturally part of his standard repertoire right from the beginning. Another standard work is of course Johannes Brahms’s grandiose Fourth in E minor, which looks back to the Baroque passacaglia, while in its motific work also featuring a «developed variation», which would later fascinate Arnold Schoenberg. Jascha von der Goltz, born in 1994 in Freiburg, has already achieved international recognition and makes his Grafenegg debut this evening, following his first encounter with the Tonkunstler in «Explained. Experienced» on the theme of «Do You Love Brahms».
