The passionate Trevor Pinnock conducts Mozart’s ‘Gran partita’, grand orchestra-like music in which ten hornists from the Concertgebouworkest can shine.

Mozart’s ‘Gran partita’

Mozart’s Serenade in B-flat, better known as the ‘Gran partita’, may be scored for just ten musicians, but it sounds no less impressive than a symphony scored for full orchestra. Serenades usually serve as occasional music for more intimate moments, but Mozart naturally put his own twist on the form, expanding it to include a full wind band. With a seven-movement work lasting nearly a whole hour, Mozart is the centre of attention, although perhaps it’s a piece you might not want to perform under a balcony! Mozart’s ‘Gran partita’ sounds superb in the Main Hall.

Essentials

Four times a year, the Essentials Series focuses on an essential masterwork, a piece of music every music lover should know, performed by the Concertgebouworkest and introduced by the lively presenter Thomas Vanderveken in his own unique way.
