Eusebius Quartet |
The Eusebius Quartet, named after one of Robert Schumann’s two alter egos invented for his musical writings. They came together in 2016, having studied in New York, Helsinki, London and Paris. Their debut recording of Korngold was the BBC Music Magazine recording of the month in January 2022.
Webern’s Langsamer Satz (‘slow movement’) is a highly expressive work in late romantic style, composed before he embraced a new experimental twelve-note music. Mozart’s ‘Dissonance’ quartet takes its name from the eerie opening harmonies, introducing an otherwise joyful work with a sprightly finale. Erich Wolfgang Korngold was a great musical child prodigy, today we hear the first of his three string quartets, written when he was still only in his twenties.
