The Sixteen - The Earth Resounds

Kings Place: Hall One90 York Way, London, Greater London, N1 9AG, United Kingdom

The Sixteen

Kings Place's Artistic Associates, The Sixteen, perform movements from Brumel’s astonishing Earthquake Mass as part of the year-long Nature Unwrapped series.

Simulating the phenomenon of trembling land, Brumel creates textures that literally seem to shake, impressing and overwhelming the listener with a surfeit of sound, in the same way that elemental forces can fill us with awe.

In contrast, Josquin’s O virgo Prudentissima evokes images of craggy rocks and dark whirlwinds, while Lassus’s Aurora lucis rutilat (Latin for ‘Dawn reddens with light’) creates a truly spectacular display of choral fireworks. This is a Magnificat guaranteed to make the earth resound.
