If composers were denied their play with numbers and systems, it would become silent around us. Every composer uses them to create melodies, and to develop rhythms and chords. However, there are few composers who are fascinated by the world behind the poetic combinations of symbols and numbers and who draw their inspiration from the beauty of mathematical formulas.
The young Italian composer Petra Cini is one of them. She breathes musical life into these models, sculpting them into living organisms. With the title of this concert in mind, the Russian composer Galina Ustvolskaya (1919 - 2006) cannot be left out. Her music is born from a primal inner force and conviction, and shows that her strict laws cannot be compromised. To conclude, the pure sound of three altos in a motet by the medieval composer Guillaume de Machaut.
