Vimbayi Kaziboni conducts a brand new work by George Lewis, performed by the London Sinfonietta.

The world premiere is presented as part of SoundState, Southbank Centre’s biannual festival of new music.

Composer and trombonist George Lewis is Professor of American Music at Columbia and his many honours include a MacArthur Fellowship and a Guggenheim Fellowship.

A long-term member of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians, he writes in his pioneering social history of the collective about ‘the strategies black musicians use in negotiating the complex, diverse and unstable environment of contemporary musical experimentalism’.

Vimbaya Kaziboni has a long association with leading contemporary music ensembles Ensemble Modern and Ensemble InterContemporain.
