Festival: Windsor Festival

September 17 – October 1, 2017

Windsor Festival aspires to be amongst the premier Music and Arts Festivals in the UK, playing an important part in the cultural life of our community and reflecting our special position as a royal town. Each year The Festival offers a fantastic series of events held within the unique venues in and around Windsor, including the marvellous Waterloo Chamber and St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.

In addition to the Autumn Music, Talks & Plays, and Walks & Tours, the Festival also runs a biennial International String Competition, seeking out the exceptional string soloists of tomorrow, and a Schools’ Programme to foster creativity amongst senior students of schools in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

The Festival was founded in 1969 with Yehudi Menuhin and Ian Hunter as Artistic Directors. The original idea for the Festival was put forward by Robin Woods, Dean of Windsor in 1968 based around the participation of the Menuhin Festival Orchestra with Yehudi Menuhin using St George's Chapel, the State Apartments of Windsor Castle. Since that time the Festival has continued to attract distinguished artists from around the world as well as having the unique privilege of holding events in the State Apartments of Windsor Castle.
