Performer: Victor Aviat

Biography

Since launching his professional conducting career as a finalist of the Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award 2014, Victor Aviat has enjoyed a series of successful debuts and garnered critical praise for both his orchestral and opera work. The 2015/16 season saw him making his debuts with the Orchestre National de Lille, the Berner Sinfonieorchester and the Malmö Symphony Orchestra. With director Laurent Pelly and publisher Boosey & Hawkes he also mounted a production of Offenbach’s forgotten work Le Roi Carotte at the Opéra de Lyon which received an International Opera Awards 2016. Aviat has also conducted the Orchestre Philharmonique de Luxembourg, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and the Symphonieorchester Vorarlberg. In 2017 he will make his debuts with the Budapest Festival Orchestra and the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra.

Born in France, Aviat studied oboe, piano and composition in Paris, Geneva and Zurich. As an oboist he played in orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and the Zurich Opera House. Aviat decided in 2009 to focus on conducting and studied for six more years with Johannes Schlaefli in Zurich and Ulrich Windfuhr in Leipzig. Aviat is currently associate conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
