Festival: Klosters Music

July 31 August 8, 2021, Klosters-Serneus, Switzerland

About Klosters Music

Following the great success of KM 2020 with its celebration of Beethoven, we can look forward to another series of exceptional concerts in the summer of 2021. Under the motto "Heimat. My Homeland" you will go on a journey to the musical cradle of Europe with outstanding orchestras, great soloists, wonderful voices and internationally renowned conductors and enjoy the charm of Bohemia in the 18th and 19th century. Star conductors Jakub Hrůša and Maxim Emelyanychev lead KOB and DKB in 3 magnificent programmes of music by Mozart, Smetana, Dvořák and Brahms. Klosters also welcomes another line-up of the world’s finest soloists including Sir András Schiff, Christian Tetzlaff, Steven Isserlis and Julie Fuchs. The 3rd Klosters Music will close with “Cinema Paradiso”, a grandiose film classic on big screen with live film music; performed by the City Light Symphony Orchestra conducted by Thiago Tiberio. Even in the summer of 2020, Klosters Music had a perfectly functioning, excellent protection concept. The protective measures for the concerts and events in 2021 will be adapted in line with the epidemiological situation in the summer and communicated in detail.

What type of programmes does the festival offer?

The festival has a Classical programme with contains Orchestra concerts, chamber music concerts and solo recitals) and right at the station, in the middle of Klosters, we have a festival tent with free admission, where a more traditional programme is to be expected.

Arena Klosters

In the centre of Klosters, the Arena is a modern, multifunctional sports and event centre. The centre is formed by the two new halls Arena 1 and Arena 2, which together with the foyer offer space for events of all kinds from 100 to 3500 people. Whether concerts, general meetings, sports events, conferences, exhibitions, galas, shows, theatre or musicals, our halls are ultra-modern and well equipped. The Arena Klosters will be the event hall for big concerts such as the Opera Gala (with Elsa Dreisig and the Kammerorchester Basel) and the symphonic concerts with Veronika Eberle, Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and Pablo Heras-Casado, and Martin Helmchen.

Food & Drink
Since the concerts are exclusively in the evening, there’ll be served champagne and other drinks in case the epidemiological situation allows it. Furthermore we recommend in general the high quality cuisine of Klosters in various restaurants, mountain restaurants with tradition and also coffee shops in the village itself.

Why should you go to the festival?
Klosters Music guarantees extraordinary series of concerts with international and renowned stars in an exclusive setting in the fascinating mountain world of Klosters. A further special feature of “Klosters Music” is that the concerts with some of the most famous musicians of our time will take place in intimate concert situations in St. Jacob’s Church and Arena Klosters.

St. Jacob’s Church

The church of St. Jacob in Klosters is the main concert room for Klosters Music. The building is fabulous for its acoustic and warmth atmosphere. In the church of St. Jacob itself there is always something unknown to discover or old familiar things to see with new eyes. There’s the history of the church's origins, the exciting interior of the church tower and the wonderful stained glass windows by Augusto Giacometti. And last but not least St. Jacob’s Church has a wonderful new organ, built by Orgelbau Goll in Luzern and inaugurated in October 2018. It’ll be played by Benajmin Righetti with i. a. Bachs Toccata and Fugue in d minor on 6th of August 2020.
