A "new" St John Passion / Easter concert

How many versions of the St. John Passion exist? In any case, more than that magnificent one by Bach. The Easter Passion narrative, based on the Gospel of John, has inspired many composers. The young ensemble Dionysos Now! has brought Willaert’s St. John Passion back to life, after it lay dormant for more than four centuries. A must-hear for the curious listener.

Dionysos Now! aims to bridge the gap between old and new music, pairing Willaert’s Passion with the music of György Ligeti. The Hungarian was one of the greatest composers of the past century. This time, Ligeti drew his inspiration from early music and wrote for the baroque harpsichord.
