The composition department of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam is well represented in this programme. Alongside the Violin Concerto by former student Mathilde Wantenaar, expect to hear freshly created works from composers presently enrolled at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. The CvA Symphony Orchestra brings an ode to the awakening of nature with Lili Boulanger’s lyrical and vibrant D’un matin de printemps.
Stravinsky’s Petrushka tells the tragic story of the love triangle between the puppets Petrushka, the Ballerina and the Moor, who come to life during the Russian carnival celebrations. While initially a ballet score, the work’s vibrant music deeply rooted in Russian traditions is so powerfully evocative that it provides an immersive experience even without dancers.
