When Juanjo Mena and BBC Philharmonic team up with pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii, the earth moves - sometimes literally! Tsujii was with us in Japan in 2011 when the Kyoto earthquake struck, but that's not the only reason why we're thrilled to have him back: Manchester audiences have forged a very special bond with this delightfully charismatic young artist. Tonight he plays Grieg's ever-popular piano concerto (and delivers rather more than just all the right notes in the right order) before Juanjo and the orchestra summon the mists and myths of Mendelssohn's atmospheric Scottish symphony. And we take another spin down the Mancunian Way with a brand new work by Emily Howard, the RNCM graduate whose music is starting to cause a stir far beyond the North West.
