Daniel Pioro | Violin |
Pat Thomas | Piano |
Daniel Pioro’s artistic curiosity draws him towards repertoire combinations that illuminate and refresh familiar works by presenting them in company with radical yet complementary companions. Here he is joined by celebrated pianist and free improviser Pat Thomas for a performance of a sonata Beethoven composed in 1803 for the violinist George Augustus Polgreen Bridgetower. Dedicated posthumously to Rodolphe Kreutzer even though the French virtuoso found the work too baffling to consider performing, Pioro and Thomas reinterpret the work as a sonic provocation and an homage to Bridgetower himself. The programme is framed with Salvatore Sciarrino’s virtuosic solo Capricci (1975-6) and intensely beautiful miniature, Per Mattia (1975).
