British composer Doreen Carwithen (1922–2003) wrote music for over 30 films, in addition to a large quantity of orchestral music. She also composed two award-winning string quartets. The piece in this programme was composed in 1948. It is true-to-form and richly creative music that leads through saturated colours to a vibrant finale.

Schubert was 16 years old when he composed his fourth string quartet, in C major. We hear echoes of his role models, such as Mozart’s so-called Dissonance Quartet, but this music primarily demonstrates Schubert’s growing confidence and rapid development towards a deeply personal style.

The string quartet from the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra is composed of members in leading positions: Patrik Swedrup is second concertmaster; Johannes Lörstad is section leader of the second violins; Grop Mikael Sjögren is alternate section leader of the viola section; and Mikael Sjögren is alternate solo cellist.

Menu: Sunchoke soup with cold-pressed rapeseed oil & Västerbotten cheese crisps. The soup is served with sourdough bread, crisp bread, whipped butter and cheese, as well as a drink, coffee/tea and a small biscuit. All soups are lactose- and gluten-free.
