Christina Pluhar’s L’Arpeggiata is back in the Muziekgebouw. That means, as always, an equally surprising and lively programme full of exciting music. This time, the focus is on women. Not just female composers and instrumentalists of days gone by, but every woman who has been marginalized throughout history. Italian and South American songs and works by female composers celebrate the power of women in full swing.
16th-century composer Maddalena Casulana stated: ‘I want to show the world, as much as I can in this profession of music, the vain error of men that they alone possess the gifts of intellect and artistry, and that such gifts are never given to women.’ Pluhar’s programme, featuring her instrumentalists and four phenomenal vocalists, is dedicated to highlighting this very sentiment.
