Conductor Jan Willem de Vriend is sometimes known as ‘the Dutch Harnoncourt’, in reference to the outstanding Austrian pioneer of historically informed performance. De Vriend puts one of his and Harnoncourt’s favourite composers on the music stand: Mozart. Harnoncourt was convinced that Mozart’s last three symphonies from the summer of 1788 formed a single whole and we will perform them as such today, from the big introduction (No. 39) to the climax of Mozart’s symphonic masterpieces, the Jupiter.
