‘The most perfectly accomplished pianist of his generation’ (The Independent) performs Chopin’s dynamic preludes and Mussorgsky’s innovative gallery promenade. Three works of contrasts make up Abduraimov’s programme. Each of Chopin’s 24 Preludes is a world in microcosm, yet together they create a powerful cohesive whole. Debussy’s six-movement suite Children’s Corner expresses different facets of the experience of being a child. Mussorgsky’s innovative Pictures at an Exhibition was inspired by drawings and architectural designs by his late friend Viktor Hartmann – including the fantastical Baba Yaga, Gnomus and the proposed Great Gate of Kiev. The contrasting movements, linked by a stately Promenade, create a musically satisfying exploration of Hartmann’s rich visual imagination. Behzod Abduraimov first came to the attention of London audiences at the age of 18, when he won the 2009 London International Piano Competition. Today, he is in demand for recitals and concertos around the world.
