The exciting young conductor Chloé van Soeterstède takes LCO’s podium for the first time tonight. The concert opens with a beautiful addition to the repertoire: Concert Overture written in 1873 by the Swedish composer and organist Elfrida Andrée (1841-1929). Lavishly romantic, it may reach our ears for the first time in this programme, but hopefully not for the last.

Next, step into the ethereal soundscape of Rhizom, by emerging young German composer and multi-media artist Annamaria Kowalsky – listen out for the sound of crystal glass ringing hauntingly from the wings.

LCO is then joined by a special soloist for Poulenc’s magnificent Organ Concerto. The French composer’s brilliant textures, inventiveness, high spirits and deeply lyrical melodies, will be brought to life by the British organist, conductor and presenter Anna Lapwood, director of music at Pembroke College, Cambridge.

This concert is generously supported by the Arts Council England Culture Recovery Fund and The Garfield Weston Foundation
