Belgian composer Jane Vignery (1913-1974) had a solid music education. She played viola and violin and studied in Paris for several celebrities: violin for Jacques Thibaud, harmony theory for the educator Nadia Boulanger and music analysis for the composer Paul Dukas. The sonata for horn and piano was written in the 1940s and shimmers with joy, but there are also melancholic shadows when the sun is temporarily clouded. And of course the manner is French to the core!
