A gala of galanterie without the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century is unthinkable. The collective – now with more than 40 years under its belt – is the perfect master of ceremonies to lead this festival edition to its ultimate climax. Guest of honour Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach is given a lap of honour with a regal orchestral programme drenched in rhetoric and sentiment.

Two sinfonias constantly wrong-foot the listener with their contrasting episodes that make sparks fly. The flute can also reap its rewards just once more in a concerto on the cutting edge. The exotic double concerto for harpsichord and fortepiano from the last year of C.P.E.'s life crowns the festival.
