On 10 September we kick off another theatre season with a festive celebration of ballet. Dutch National Ballet's lavish annual Gala brings together dance enthusiasts and notables from in and outside the dance world, making it an event not to be missed!

For this year's Gala, Dutch National Ballet has once more put together an exclusive surprise programme showcasing the combined efforts of some 200(!) dancers, including several leading international soloists. New this year is an even bigger and better afterparty, where guests are invited to meet the dancers and choreographers in the foyers of Dutch National Ballet & Opera.

The Gala production features a series of duets spotlighting Dutch National Ballet's stellar principle dancers alongside foreign guest soloists. Also on the programme is an exclusive sneak peak at a vibrant, virtuosic ballet from this season's Best of Balanchine, danced by a large ensemble of principles and the corps de ballet.

The Gala opens with the now traditional Grand Procession, an exuberant and uplifting introduction to the entire company of Dutch National Ballet dancers, including Junior Company members and pupils and students from the Dutch National Ballet Academy.

Dutch National Ballet picked up the tradition of a Grand Procession in 2011, inspired by Ballet de l’Opéra national de Paris and its Grand Défilé held annually since 1926. Artistic director Ted Brandsen is basing this year's procession on the polonaise in Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty. Brandsen: 'The traditional and literal meaning of the French term défilé is to "process in narrow ranks". And that's precisely what we do. Our procession is a festive opening ceremony where every dancer gets a moment, however briefly, to shine in the spotlight. It's a statement of our identity as a company and what we have to offer.'
