Jordi Savall and Le Concert des Nations perform atmospheric early music from a movie starring Gérard Depardieu.
Savall has been described by the New York Times as ‘close to... an early music superstar’. He performed the soundtrack to this film recreating the lives of musicians during the reign of Louis XIV.
The movie follows an aspiring viol player, Marin Marais, as he attempts to become a pupil of master musician Monsieur de Sainte-Colombe; the latter became a recluse, while the former became a court composer at Versailles.
Performing on period instruments, Savall and Le Concert des Nations bring to life 17th-century passion and heartbreak, with music by composers including Marais, de Sainte-Colombe and Lully.
