Winner of the 10th Estonian Pianists’ Competition and laureate of several other international competitions, Fortunato Salvador García Piquer will give a solo recital on 14 December at the Arvo Pärt Centre. The programme focuses on masterpieces from the 19th and early 20th centuries in the genres of fantasy, ballad, and nocturne. The carefully curated programme opens powerfully with Manuel de Falla’s flamenco-inspired Fantasía bética, vividly expressing the composer’s colourful and inventive approach to the piano. This is followed by Debussy’s nocturne and ballad – melancholy works with a sensitive musical language that offer a dreamy, relaxing listening experience.

The central part of the concert is dedicated to Scriabin’s music. Alongside his preludes, the expansive and virtuosic Fantasy in B minor, Op. 28 will be performed – a work that, with its dense contrapuntal texture and highly complex left-hand writing, demands great mastery from the pianist. The evening concludes with another nocturne-ballad pair, this time from Chopin’s beautiful piano repertoire, providing an intimate and enchanting final chord to the concert.

In addition to his first prize at the Estonian Pianists’ Competition (2024), Spanish pianist Fortunato Salvador García Piquer has won the Yamaha Scholarship Competition (2024) and has successfully participated in the 4th Tallinn International Piano Competition (2021), the 9th International M. K. Čiurlionis Piano and Organ Competition (2023), the Gabriel Teruel Piano Competition (2022), and the Laine Mets Pianists’ Competition (2021). He graduated with distinction from both the Castelló Salvador Seguí Conservatory and the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, where he is currently pursuing doctoral studies. He has also refined his skills in masterclasses with renowned pianists such as Eteri Andjaparidze, Alexander Kobrin, Toms Ostrovskis, Hando Nahkur, Łukasz Byrdy, Angela Hewitt, and Hui-Ying and Erik T. Tawaststjerna.
