Russian pianist Evgeny Kissin began his performing career at the age of 10. Since then, he has played at numerous venues around the world, accompanied by the finest orchestras and conductors of today, and at recitals in which he has excelled as a musician in the Romantic repertoire. Kissin has received numerous awards from institutions across the globe, in addition to two Grammy Awards for best soloist.

Kissin dedicates his concert exclusively to the music of Ludwig van Beethoven, and joins the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the birth of the composer that L’Auditori will maintain throughout its entire programme. We will hear him perform three of Beethoven’s sonatas: Sonata No. 8, op. 13, Pathétique, so called due to its intense emotional charge, which does not obviate a growing interest in formal experimentation; Sonata No. 17, op. 31, The Storm, a work replete with the turbulences and contrasts that are so characteristic of Beethoven; and lastly, Sonata No. 21, op. 53, Waldstein, one of his finest compositions in this genre and one which poses a major challenge for any performer. Kissin will complete his concert repertoire with the Variations and Fugue, op. 35. Based on an original theme for his ballet The Creatures of Prometheus, the variations offer an entertaining structural game while combining Baroque elements with the most contemporary compositional language.
