Kings Place Quartet in Residence, the Piatti Quartet, joins internationally acclaimed pianist Noriko Ogawa for an evening shaped by reflection, passion, and musical rebirth.

This programme weaves together a landmark new commission with two era-defining masterpieces, exploring how composers respond to memory, longing and transformation. From Mendelssohn’s youthful intensity to Brahms’ turbulent majesty, the concert journeys through deeply expressive sound worlds.

Mendelssohn’s A minor Quartet, Op. 13 opens the evening with its impassioned lyricism and heartfelt introspection, written when the composer was just eighteen. Ogawa then joins the Piatti Quartet for the world premiere of Joseph Phibbs’ Piano Quintet, commissioned by Kings Place Music Foundation.

After the interval, the programme culminates in Brahms’ Quartet No. 1 in C minor, a work of brooding intensity and symphonic power, whose sweeping finale brings the evening to a thrilling and cathartic close.

This event will last approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes, including an interval.
