Marmen Quartet |
The Marmen Quartet, renowned for the vitality and vigour of their performances. Formed in 2013 at the Royal College of Music in London, in 2019 they won the Grand Prize of the Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition as well as the First Prize of the Banff International String Quartet Competition.
Haydn’s ‘Dream’ quartet gets its name from the long-drawn violin tune in the Poco Adagio movement. Bartók’s six quartets are considered among the pinnacles of 20th century chamber music, the second including an early example of his famous ‘night music’ effects. Benjamin Britten championed and recorded Purcell’s stately variations, which share a key signature with Debussy’s colourful quartet, famous for its quirky pizzicato scherzo and magical slow movement.
