A circus animal tamer turns up at the home of a Russian billionaire (to settle her scores with him), who in fact is only his lackey disguised as him. In turn, two provincial actors prepare to sing Gounod’s Faust in a small theatre, but their incredible quarrel make them miss their entrance on stage… A few burlesques are guaranteed. By associating these two opéras-bouffes in one act, it is of the condition of artists during the 19th century that this work is telling, in a resolutely unrestrained and teasing tone. The Palazzetto Bru Zane is associating for the occasion one of the masters of operetta – Charles Lecoq – a composer whose comic talent we would be mistaken to ignore any longer.
