Festival: Andermatt Music Summer Festival

Andermatt Music Summer Festival

June 23  26, 2020

The mountain village of Andermatt, located in the heart of Switzerland, is transforming into one of the world’s finest year-round destinations, boasting 120 km of ski slopes and an 18-hole golf course following major development led by Andermatt Swiss Alps. New facilities include a charming village square at the heart of which is the recently built Andermatt Concert Hall, in addition to new hotels, shops, apartments and chalets.

The Andermatt Concert Hall, designed by Studio Seilern Architects led by Christina Seilern, is an intimate, light-filled 650-seat hall with an exceptionally flexible stage capable of incorporating a 75-piece orchestra. The acoustics and theatre design are respectively by Kahle Acoustics and dUCKS scéno – the same partnership behind the Philharmonie de Paris. The concert hall is designed to allow passers-by outside to look down from above and see it in action.

Genre-bending programming by the team at The New Generation Festival in Florence, Italy weaves Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, iconic jazz standards from Harlem's musical past, Brahms and Radiohead together to create the first Andermatt Music Summer Festival, taking place from 23-26 June 2020. The four-day festival celebrates one year since the Andermatt Concert Hall, Switzerland’s newest concert hall, was inaugurated by the Berlin Philharmonic. Alongside Andermatt Music's monthly young artist concert series, this Summer Festival is the third seasonal festival presented by The New Generation Festival, which creates an international platform for the finest young musical talent while breaking down boundaries. In residence throughout the festival is the Bologna-based Orchestra Senzaspine, whose members are all under 35 years of age.
