Festival: Chetham's International Piano Series

17-28 August 2018

Over two weeks each August, Chetham’s International Piano Series brings acclaimed soloists, orchestras and emerging talents together in the heart of Manchester. Hugely successful as a Summer School for eighteen years, in 2017 the Piano Series moved into The Stoller Hall – Chetham’s exceptional new venue for chamber music – creating space for a wider audience to share in its rich performance programme. The award winning venue is built to the highest acoustic standards and lies just minutes from national rail links and from the city’s thriving centre.

Performers in 2018 including Leon McCawley, Ronald Brautigam and Peter Frankl, as well as Festival Director Murray McLachlan, in 29 concerts over 12 incredible days. Core classical repertoire performed by established artists; multi-soloist concerto evenings with leading North West orchestras; Young Artist recitals; organ; harpsichord; jazz; and resident composers, combine the piano with chamber music, world premières and orchestral masterworks.

Chetham’s International Piano Summer School and Festival for Pianists welcomes participants at all ages and levels, including teachers, adult amateurs, young pianists and far more. Courses on offer range from classical and contemporary piano to duets, jazz, sightreading and theory, plus improvisation, Kodály and teaching. With the majority of participants staying onsite at Chetham’s, and course costs including every concert across a full week, it’s been described as, “the friendliest piano summer school in the world.”

With the move to The Stoller Hall, non-participating audiences now have chance to share in the Summer School’s uniquely welcoming atmosphere. Whether you choose to attend a single concert, or take advantage of discounted Series pricing to book for four or more, you’ll hear some of the world’s finest players, experience its most advanced acoustics, and share the experience with like-minded audiences from across the piano world.
