Festival: Little Missenden Festival

Interior of Little Missenden Church

Now in its 60th year, the Little Missenden Festival is a celebration of the finest music, art and literature. Early, baroque, classical and contemporary music, jazz, folk, art lectures, literary discussions, poetry readings and children's events are all featured during the Festival. This year our programmes include artists and ensembles such as Sir John Tomlinson, Harriet Walter, Mahan Esfahani, Katya Apekisheva, Sollazzo Ensemble, Gesualdo Six and Kosmos.

All our musical events this year take place in the ancient village church of St John the Baptist, a small Saxon-cum-Norman building enhanced by medieval wall paintings. This lovely place has a fine immediate acoustic and a wonderful intimate atmosphere. Music heard at such close range has real impact and presence. A concert here is a very special experience. There are also lectures on art, literature and music in the nearby village hall.

There is no dress code. As this is Britain in October, temperatures may range from warm to cool and rain is not impossible.

Little Missenden is within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and there are many splendid walks nearby. Old Amersham is an ancient market town with much fine architecture including houses that date back as far as 1450 (Amersham Museum) and a Market Hall dating from 1682. Little Missenden is a beautiful, unspoilt village on the River Misbourne, at the foot of the Chiltern Hills in Buckinghamshire, near the town of Amersham. Most events take place in the village church of St John the Baptist.

We offer an outstanding series of concerts and lectures, including artists and ensembles such as Sir John Tomlinson, Harriet Walter, Mahan Esfahani, Katya Apekisheva, Sollazzo Ensemble, Gesualdo Six and Kosmos, all in the beautiful and intimate surroundings of our village church in the Chiltern Hills.
