Tonight’s Orchestre de Paris Prom was very much a concert of two halves, in the first of which they got to show their sensitive, introspective side, reflecting on the nature of life and lamenting too-early death, then becoming considerably more extrovert in the second for some free-spirited buccaneering, and what the programme notes describe as “vivid, prolonged and grand noise”.

The opening of Henri Dutilleux’s Symphony no. 1, with its distinctive pizzicato opening full of tension and curiosity, opened the concert not with a bang but rather a seductive lure.

La cheffe et le pianiste allemands ont tous deux fait preuve d'une théâtralité pas toujours bien dosée aux côtés d'un Orchestre de Paris éloquent dans la Deuxième Symphonie de Kurt Weill.

Le pianiste transforme en joyau le mal-aimé Concerto n° 2 de Tchaïkovski. L'Orchestre de Paris a rendu en seconde partie un bel hommage à Philippe Aïche, son violon solo décédé à l'automne 2022.

Pleine d'effets, de pétarades de trombones, de sifflements acérés de la petite harmonie, de contrebasses sauvages, la Deuxième Symphonie de Mahler proposée à la Philharmonie a cependant manqué de cohésion.

Pour ouvrir la saison 2022-23, Klaus Mäkelä a dirigé un programme original au sein duquel la création contemporaine occupait une place de choix : une audace qu'on aimerait voire reproduite !

Les académiciens de l'Orchestre de Paris ont conclu leur stage d'été avec brio dans un programme qui mettait en avant la fougue de la jeunesse, dirigés par Sora Elisabeth Lee et Klaus Mäkelä.

La production proposée au Grand Théâtre de Provence dans la mise en scène d'Andrea Breth vaut le détour pour l'interprétation de haut vol d'Elsa Dreisig, bien suivie par Ingo Metzmacher et l'Orchestre de Paris.

La direction de Manfred Honeck magnifie un Orchestre de Paris à se damner. Le piano d'Igor Levit manque un peu d'insolence virtuose et de swing dans Gershwin.

Esa-Pekka Salonen enfile une double casquette de chef-compositeur et présente son œuvre Karawane avant d'enchaîner au podium pour une grande version de Daphnis et Chloé de Ravel avec l'Orchestre de Paris.

Dans un programme passionnant, la création de Thomas Larcher était habilement couplée à l'Adagio de la Symphonie n° 10 de Mahler, qui répondait particulièrement bien à la Musique maçonnique de Mozart.

Alexandra Conunova remplace au pied levé Janine Jansen dans un Bartók énergique mais imparfait. Avec Jukka-Pekka Saraste, l'Orchestre de Paris brille davantage dans une Cinquième de Mahler galvanisée.

L'Orchestre de Paris retrouve Nina Stemme et Gerald Finley pour une de leurs œuvres fétiches, Le Château de Barbe-Bleue. Pekka Kuusisto donne la création française du Concerto de Bryce Dessner.

Dans Les Hébrides comme dans la monumentale symphonie-randonnée de Richard Strauss, le maestro et l'Orchestre de Paris font forte impression.

C'est un vrai banquet du Walhalla wagnérien qui a été proposé : extraits des Maîtres chanteurs, de Tristan... et de La Walkyrie, avec le trio Stuart Skelton – Jennifer Holloway – Mika Kares.
