The Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, which has been astonishing and delighting the audiences throughout the music world over the past few decades, is making its Ljubljana debut. The increasing international visibility of the Grammy Award-winning orchestra standing at a crossroads between the Scandinavian north, the European west and the east of Russia and beyond has been raised even further under the leadership of Music Director and Chief Conductor Olari Elts, recipient of the 2019 Estonian Music Award.

On its centenary tour, the orchestra will pay tribute to the world's most famous Estonian composer, Arvo Pärt, with his both supremely simple and deeply moving Cantus. Sibelius's much-loved compositions will round off the programme with a strong Scandinavian flavour: Symphony No. 2, a piece weaving Finland’s natural beauty and the country’s struggle for independence into one sumptuous orchestral tapestry, and the grave and sombre Violin Concerto combining Sibelius's unique musical language with the capabilities of the solo instrument. Playing her 1718 "Mlynarski" Stradivarius violin, the brilliant Simone Lamsma, a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music in London, will offer further proof of the concerto's enduring appeal.
