The Czech Janáček Philharmonic, led by their esteemed Music Director Daniel Raiskin, opens this captivating programme with music rooted in Czech history and influenced by the country’s folk music. The Pantomime, from Janáček’s opera The Cunning Little Vixen, has one of the most sublime melodies ever written. Violinist Jennifer Pike, renowned for her “dazzling interpretative flair” (Classic FM) and her ability to “hold an audience spellbound” (The Strad), brings her unique artistry and compelling insight to Sibelius’ Violin Concerto, a masterpiece of soaring melodies and virtuosic brilliance. After the interval, experience the monumental power of Shostakovich’s monumental masterpiece. His Tenth Symphony is a gripping exploration of human resilience and triumph, filled with dramatic intensity and sweeping orchestral grandeur.
