Simon Hogan, assistant Director of Music at Southwark Cathedral, has held previous appointments at Southwell Minster and Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford. Recent notable performances include the complete organ symphonies of Louis Vierne in a single day and the premiere of a new work for eight organs and electronics for the city of Karlsruhe’s 300th anniversary. Rachel Laurin, whose Étude Heroïque opens the concert, has become a regular feature in our Leeds series. The French influence continues in one of the beautiful but lesser-known movements from Charles-Marie Widor’s fifth symphony.
