‘Shout for joy, exult, rise up, glorify the day’, because as per tradition, in the December darkness Johann Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio is on the programme. This year it will be delivered by the renowned Belgian vocal ensemble Vox Luminis from singer and conductor Lionel Meunier. An all-rounder who time and time again succeeds in getting the very best out of his baroque singers. Last year, Vox Luminis garnered wonderful reviews here with their interpretation of Bach’s Magnificat, and this time they can unleash their rhetorical mastery on the Christmas story.
It was originally Bach’s intention to perform this oratorio – which sings of the birth of Christ – spread out between 25 December and Twelfth Night. At DE SINGEL we transport you from birth to epiphany in a single stupendous evening.
