Pianist Beatrice Rana is a young Italian musician who is now ascending the international music scene, much to the delight of audiences and critics. She debuted with an orchestra at the young age of nine and has already become a regular soloist of the major stages in Vienna and Berlin, Wigmore Hall in London, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Lincoln Center in New York.

Now Rana and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra will unite under the baton of Sakari Oramo in a programme which the orchestra will begin with a symphonic poem by Sibelius from 1892. This is a tale with no specific narrative, but with an atmosphere like “the expression of a state of mind,” as he himself once said. Next we will hear a symphony which ultimately proved to be Anders Eliasson’s last, a powerful piece whose three movements run into one another without pause: rolling and swaying, charged and lyrical, one after the next.

The melancholy atmosphere left behind by Eliasson’s symphony will shift after the intermission with Tchaikovsky’s famous Piano Concerto No. 1. With grand gestures, it contains a masterful piano section, colourful orchestral playing and captivating melodies with folkloric elements.
