Soirées russes à Genève : Lionel Cottet et l’Orchestre National de Russie

Lionel Cottet © Vera Markus
Un marathon russe sur deux soirées au Victoria Hall aura permis d’entendre un bel éventail de musiques slaves. L’orchestre national russe, sous la direction de Mikhail Pletnev, ressort auréolé d’un beau succès.

Herman Cornejo in A Gathering of Ghosts © Rosalie O'Connor
A mixed evening at the Koch Theater, with ABT shining in Ratmansky and a new Twyla Tharp creation, but struggling in Balanchine.

Ratmansky triple bill celebrates ten years with ABT

Summer from The Seasons © Marty Sohl
The Seasons is overstuffed, uneven and way too busy. There are so many steps, but they rarely made me "see the music". It was a frustrating ballet, with so many lovely moments that were less than the sum of its parts.

Pacy Tchaikovsky from Long Yu and the Philharmonia

Jian Wang © Xu Bin
Long Yu certainly didn’t rest on his laurels as he powered through Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony, while Jian Wang introduced subtlety and deftness in the Rococo Variations.

Baroque intimacy and imperial splendour

Glazunov's The Seasons is a beautifully wrought and iridescent score, a jewel, a decorative Fabergé-like work of art, stuffed with melodic bonbons.
