A poignant tale of escape and hope for the future

In the country there is concern. Ilon and her dog moves to the grandmother who lives in a small town by the sea. War breaks out and she had to flee the country alone. The bag is packed and she ends up on a boat and a trip across a stormy sea. Exhausted, she comes to Sweden, security and its colorful aunt. In the war, Ilon leave their crayons but now the colors and signature back.

The long, long journey is an opera based on a children's book by Rose Lagercrantz, inspired by cartoonist Ilon Wikland life and escape from Estonia during World War II. Ilon Wikland is one of our most beloved illustrators primarily known for cartoons in Astrid Lindgren's books. The libretto was written by the Young Opera dramaturg Sigrid Harrault and the music of Johan Ramström. The director is Ellen Lamb, inter alia directed What is money? and Jane Eyre at the Royal Dramatic Theatre.

The show is aimed at children between 7 and 9 years.
