The Barber of Seville is perfect for a summer’s night – bright and sprightly music combined with entertaining theatre. Fashion designer Teemu Muurimäki’s enchantingly exuberant yet super stylish costumes, eye-catching sets, Kari Heiskanen’s visionary direction and Rossini’s musical mastery go together like celebrations and champagne.
The success of the performance is ensured by a fresh cast of soloists and the conductor Evelino Pidò, an expert on Italian opera. The highly demanded young mezzo-soprano Annalisa Stroppa has found her ideal role as Rosina. ”I’ve discovered we have much in common. Rosina is young, full of life, decisive and open to where life takes her,” she says. Rosina is courted by Count Almaviva, whose role is performed by Finland’s number one tenor, the internationally acclaimed Tuomas Katajala.
