The great farce of our egotistical lives
The Teatro de la Maestranza presents the ground- breaking work for which Raquel García-Tomás (Barcelona, 1984) has been awarded the 2020 Premio Nacional de Música, an ingenious piece that can connect with a wide audience.
A comedy of genuine black humour, Je suis narcissiste, premiered in 2019. Inspired by “Opera buffa” tradition, it is a very contemporary story where loneliness, egocentrism and superficial relationships are the order of the day; themes with which many of the spectators can relate. Featuring an overwhelmed events organiser who arrives at her psychiatric appointment, it narrates the drama of those who use life as an obstacle race that separates one from happiness.
Humour and passion that invoke our exaggerated sense of individualism, Je suis narcissiste is also conceived as an example of women who dare to break through the wall of masculinity which has always surrounded opera.
