Violetta’s days are numbered. Her body is riddled with tuberculosis. She lives hard and fast one day at a time, at night she drinks. When she meets Alfredo, she begins to hope for a different existence, away from the life of a courtesan. But hypocrisy and bigotry stand in the way of love. Soon, Violetta succumbs to her fate.

In La traviata we encounter a woman who wants to follow her heart in a society governed by convention. One of Verdi’s most played and popular operas, La Traviata premiered in Paris in 1853. Ellen Lamm and Magdalena Åberg’s version, which focuses on oppression and hypocrisy, was widely acclaimed following the premiere in 2019. Aftonbladet wrote that “the chorus is excellent, with a unified texture and good dynamic range”. Expressen found that “the amazing Opera Chorus adds and expands”.  Svenska Dagbladet praised Ida Falk Winland as “a walking exclamation mark in gold lame and with a throat of gold”.
